4130 and 4140 are both low-alloy steel grades commonly used for making tubes or pipes. These grades have similar properties and are often used interchangeably.
4130 steel is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel that is often used for aircraft parts and structural tubing due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, good weldability, and excellent mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. It has a tensile strength of 97,000 psi and a yield strength of 63,000 psi.
4140 steel is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel that is often used for a wide range of applications, including machinery parts, crankshafts, and axles. It has a higher carbon content than 4130 steel, which makes it harder and more resistant to wear and abrasion. It has a tensile strength of 95,000 psi and a yield strength of 60,000 psi.
4130 and 4140 steel tubes can be heat treated to improve their strength and hardness. They can also be machined and welded with ease. Both grades are commonly used for high-stress applications that require excellent strength and durability.
